Muscle Release Acupuncture. Pain free sooner!

Chronic pain can be an overwhelming stress on the body and the mind.  Pain is easily the number one reason why a person will visit their doctors – whether it is an MD, Naturopathic Doctor, Chiropractor, Physiotherapist or Massage Therapist.  Over the years, I have been amazed by the variety of therapies that patients have tried or continue to try in order to solve their pain.  Everything from one person who thought spraying WD40 on his joints should help (please don’t) to a patient seeing a therapist 2 times a week for 2 years with no real improvement!  This is why I am now making it my mission to educate people about Muscle Release Acupuncture.  I have seen it work consistently with patients to relieve chronic pain, spasms and headaches that they have tried so many other treatments for.  As a Naturopathic Doctor, we see chronic health concerns every day, but muscle and nerve pain continues to overwhelm patients lives.

With Muscle Release Acupuncture (MRA), it is a blend of dry needling (no solutions are injected into the muscle or nerve) and trigger point therapy like IMS.  The goal of the therapy is to improve communication between the irritated nerve and muscles.  Once the muscle has spasmed, it puts pressure on the nerve, which then tightens the muscle further.  Most therapies focus on stretching the muscle (which doesn’t release the nerve irritation) or medically on blocking the pain sensation (which may improve quality of life, but doesn’t solve the story).  With MRA, patients will feel a twitchy cramping sensation when the trigger point is reached, then the muscle releases.  Quick and simple.  As the doctor, I can generally tell in one visit whether a patient will see continued relief from this therapy.  Most can stand up off the table and instantly feel relief.  Each treatment should extend the relief window to the point the therapy is no longer needed.

Overall, patients see relief in one session.  If this therapy works, then most will repeat the treatment 1-3 more times at once per week.  If they go pain free for one week, then I’ll see them in 2 weeks.  Once pain free for 2 weeks, then I’ll see them in 3-4 weeks.  If they are pain free for 3-4 weeks, come back only when you need to.  Average patient is seen for a total of 5-8 sessions over several months.
